Yardland - Kalash fait son carnaval

Yardland was my first major project in music event production. It was also the festival’s very first edition, which made the challenge even more significant. I was delighted to contribute to the story of an event I deeply believe in.
I assisted the production team on this project, which allowed me to learn alongside an experienced crew.

The artistic direction of the show was clear: transform the festival into a carnival to close the first day. The main challenge was to recreate the atmosphere of a Martinican carnival as faithfully as possible. We came up with the idea of renting a parade float—an essential visual element of any carnival. I contacted several suppliers to find the ideal vehicle at the right price, then organized its transport to Paris.

The rest of the show was built around different components: sound system, DJ, decorations, pickup truck, dancers, styling… With the support of the team, I was responsible for sourcing, contacting, and coordinating all suppliers while respecting deadlines, the budget, and the artist’s expectations.

A few days before the festival, I also took on the role of on-site production assistant. On July 5, we welcomed all suppliers for the final preparations. We installed the decorations, held a final briefing with the dancers and their choreographer, Tashinda, and carefully finalized the show timings — an exercise I quickly understood to be essential.

Safety checks with the festival’s general production team were mandatory: moving the float through the crowd, the use of flame throwers, and other technical elements all required approval. Finally, moments before the show, we brought the dancers, extras, DJ Shiva, and Kalash onto the float, and moved forward toward the audience.

The arrival of the float created complete surprise: the entire festival gathered around the vehicle.
